Is JP Erram on His Way Out of TNT? Signs Point to Yes
The relationship between TNT big man JP Erram and head coach Chot Reyes continues to deteriorate, and after another heated confrontation in Game 5 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, the writing may be on the wall: Erram’s days with TNT could be numbered.
A Pattern of Tensions Between Erram and TNT
The latest mid-game altercation between Erram and Reyes came after Japeth Aguilar’s fast-break dunk trimmed TNT’s lead. Reyes, clearly frustrated, called out Erram for his defensive lapse. Erram responded by throwing his towel, visibly showing his displeasure.
This isn’t the first time Erram has had a public disagreement with Reyes this series. Back in Game 2, the TNT center stormed into the dugout after a non-call on his layup attempt and a costly foul on Justin Brownlee. His frustration boiled over as he kicked a water jug and other team equipment on his way out.
It’s not just a coach-player issue either. Erram also clashed with Glenn Khobuntin during the semifinals against Rain or Shine, highlighting deeper tensions within the TNT locker room.
Is TNT Ready to Move On?
Erram is undoubtedly one of the most talented big men in the PBA, but his emotional outbursts and issues with both teammates and coaches have raised serious concerns. With his contract status uncertain, it wouldn’t be surprising if TNT explores other options after this tournament.
- Erram’s Role Has Already Diminished – Kelly Williams, despite being 42 years old, has been trusted more in key moments over Erram. That says a lot about the team’s confidence in him moving forward.
- TNT Needs Stability in the Frontcourt – The Tropang Giga might look for a more disciplined and reliable big man rather than dealing with in-game tantrums and internal conflicts.
- Chot Reyes' Influence – As long as Reyes is coaching TNT, it’s hard to see him continuing to work with a player he’s clashed with multiple times in one tournament alone.
The Likelihood of an Erram Exit Is High
Regardless of how this Finals series ends, there’s a big chance that JP Erram will not be a TNT player next conference. If TNT wins, the franchise may decide that Erram’s attitude isn’t worth the trouble moving forward. If TNT loses, he could become the scapegoat for the team’s failure.
Either way, this situation looks like it’s heading toward an inevitable separation. JP Erram’s time with TNT may be coming to an end sooner than expected.
