PBA Free Agency: Converge sign an ex-Magnolia Forward!

Did Converge Make the Right Move in Signing Jackson Corpuz?

Converge FiberXers' decision to acquire Jackson Corpuz is understandable. The team badly needs a forward, and Corpuz brings energy, toughness, and veteran experience. However, considering the other available options, was he the best choice?

Why Corpuz Makes Sense for Converge

Converge has struggled with frontcourt depth, and adding a scrappy, defensive-minded player like Corpuz is a reasonable move.

  • He brings grit and hustle—two qualities that Converge needs to become more competitive.
  • He has Finals experience with Magnolia, which could help a young team like Converge.
  • His physicality makes him a solid presence in the paint, especially for a team that has lacked a tough enforcer.

However, there are concerns. Corpuz is already 35 years old and has dealt with injuries in recent seasons. He only played nine games in his final season with Magnolia. While he is a solid addition, it feels like Converge could have aimed higher.

Converge’s decision to sign Jackson Corpuz makes sense from a short-term perspective, as they need immediate help at the forward spot. However, in the bigger picture, it feels like there were better options available.

If Converge wants to truly improve, they should not stop with Corpuz. They should still pursue more impact forwards, especially players like Ganuelas-Rosser or Carl Bryan Cruz, who can provide more two-way production and fit the team's long-term plans.
