PBA Trade Rumors: Ginebra should MAKE A TRADE?

Ginebra’s Agony: Another Finals Defeat, Another Call for Reinforcements?

For the second time this season, Barangay Ginebra has fallen short in the PBA Finals against TNT. This time, it happened in an excruciating Game 7 overtime loss in the Commissioner’s Cup, leaving the Gin Kings and their passionate fans in heartbreak once again.

This loss is particularly painful because, on paper, Ginebra had the tools to win. They were deeper than ever, especially after adding Troy Rosario via unrestricted free agency, yet it still wasn’t enough. So now, the question lingers—does Ginebra really need to make another move to reclaim the championship?

The Most Talented Roster in the PBA?

Ginebra’s current core remains one of the strongest, if not the most talented, in the league:

  • Scottie Thompson – Reigning Finals MVP and arguably the best all-around guard in the PBA.

  • Jamie Malonzo – One of the most explosive two-way forwards in the game.

  • Troy Rosario – A veteran stretch big who fits seamlessly into Ginebra’s system.

  • Japeth Aguilar – Still a force on both ends, even as he gets older.

  • Stephen Holt – A high-IQ guard who provides stability.

  • RJ Abarrientos – The young star with elite playmaking and outside shooting.

  • Maverick Ahanmisi – A capable veteran who can score and defend.

  • Jeremiah Gray – A promising, athletic wing with a high ceiling.

  • LA Tenorio – The veteran leader, still capable of making big plays.

Looking at this lineup, it’s fair to ask: Does Ginebra really need to make another acquisition?

Why Ginebra Might Need Another Piece

The upcoming All-Filipino Cup removes imports from the equation, meaning Ginebra will have a chance to prove that their roster is the strongest in the league. But there's a catch—TNT is now one championship away from a grand slam.

Ginebra, as San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) flagship team, should not just be content with being a contender. They should be the biggest roadblock to TNT’s historic run. If TNT is one title away from immortality, then Ginebra should be the team standing in their way.

Even though their current roster is already strong, adding another game-changing player could give them the extra edge to ensure that they don’t just compete—but dominate.

Who Should Ginebra Target?

If Ginebra wants to truly secure its place as TNT’s biggest threat, they should consider acquiring another star—possibly a dominant big man or another elite scorer. While no names have surfaced yet, SMC has never been shy about making moves when necessary.

Will Ginebra Run It Back or Reload?

Ginebra’s core is already championship-caliber. But after two straight Finals losses to TNT, will they stand pat and trust this group, or will they reinforce the team to ensure TNT doesn’t complete the grand slam?

The Gin Kings have never been ones to back down from a challenge. But as TNT inches closer to history, Ginebra and SMC must decide how much they’re willing to do to make sure that history doesn’t come at their expense.
