A controvers
y has erupted in the world of Philippine basketball broadcasting after former PBA courtside reporter Ira Pablo-Neypes made serious accusations against fellow courtside veteran Apple David, claiming that she was bullied and misled during their time together on the PBA broadcast team.
In a lengthy social media post published on Saturday, Pablo-Neypes shared screenshots and a detailed account of events, alleging that Apple David played a key role in leaking private information from a group chat of PBA courtside reporters, and spread potentially fabricated stories that damaged her relationship with colleagues and friends.
The Origin of the Conflict
The post was triggered by a light-hearted TikTok trend that Pablo-Neypes joined. In the video, she made fun of herself for unknowingly sharing sensitive info in a supposedly private group chat, which was later leaked. To her surprise, many netizens in the comments section tagged Apple David as the possible culprit.
What further stoked the fire was David personally replying to the viral post, which, according to Pablo-Neypes, only intensified the public's belief that she was indeed the person being alluded to.
“The most shocking thing too is that Apple herself replied to the post. It made people really believe that the ‘well-known courtside reporter’ I was referring to was her,” said Pablo-Neypes.
Allegations of Leaking and Misinformation
Pablo-Neypes detailed multiple incidents, including one where David allegedly informed the PBA production team that Pablo-Neypes already knew which courtside reporters would not be renewed for the next conference—information that was supposed to be confidential.
She also recalled an incident involving a male anchor and a new courtside reporter, where David allegedly shared a claim that the anchor said married women should not be courtside reporters. Pablo-Neypes was incensed, especially because she was close to both parties involved.
But to her surprise, both the male anchor and the new reporter reached out to deny the story entirely. This left Pablo-Neypes feeling betrayed and manipulated, stating that she may have believed and defended a false narrative.
“Imagine looking like a bad person to other people and worse, looking bad to YOUR FRIENDS from made-up stories?” she wrote. “Bakit naman ganun Apple? Anong ginawa naming tatlo sayo?”
A Public and Personal Fallout
Pablo-Neypes closed her post by directly addressing David, accusing her of being a bully, but also expressing a mix of frustration, sarcasm, and defiance. She congratulated David on her 11 years in the PBA, but made it clear that she will never tolerate being mistreated again.
“You can bully everyone else, but you can NEVER bully me ever again,” Pablo-Neypes wrote. “I genuinely hope you find peace and fulfillment in your life.”
As of writing, Apple David has yet to release a public statement addressing the allegations. The PBA and its production team have also remained silent on the matter.
Final Thoughts
This controversy has opened up a conversation about professional dynamics, trust, and personal boundaries within the PBA’s media circle. With screenshots, anecdotes, and public callouts now in the spotlight, it’s easy to get swept up in the drama.
However, despite the evidence presented, we must recognize that we still do not have the full picture. Context, intent, and other perspectives are still missing. Until all sides come forward — and if they choose to — the truth behind this courtside fallout remains only partially visible.
