PBA Free Agency: Ginebra head coach Tim Cone wants Romeo and Wright?

While social media has been buzzing with rumors linking Terrence Romeo and Matthew Wright to Barangay Ginebra, coach Tim Cone has reportedly stated that he has not contacted either player. This statement from the Gin Kings' head coach aims to put an end to the speculation, but it also highlights a significant question for Ginebra: how will they fill the void left by Jamie Malonzo?

The Hole Left by Jamie Malonzo

Malonzo's departure has left a gaping hole in Ginebra's lineup. He was a two-way player who was not only a scoring threat but also a versatile defender who could guard multiple positions. His energy, athleticism, and ability to create his own shot will be sorely missed. While the team is still loaded with talent, they do not have a player who can replicate Malonzo's unique skillset. The need for an injection of talent is still there, and the team will need to make a move to fill that void.

The Status of the Free Agents

Terrence Romeo, a three-time scoring champion and one of the most explosive guards in the league, is currently an unrestricted free agent. He is free to sign with any team he wants, which makes him a low-risk, high-reward option for Ginebra. However, his health has been a concern, and it is a big reason why he has not been signed yet. If Ginebra can get a healthy and motivated Romeo, he could be a game-changer.

Matthew Wright, on the other hand, is a restricted free agent. His rights are still with his former team, Phoenix, which gives them the advantage in any negotiation. While there are rumors that Phoenix and Wright are already in talks for a return, there are also whispers that Ginebra is interested in trading for him. Wright, a talented shooter and a great two-way player, would be a perfect fit for coach Tim Cone's system. He could provide the scoring and defense that Ginebra needs to fill the hole left by Malonzo.

Despite Cone's statement, the reality is that Ginebra still has a need for another playmaker. The PBA community will be watching closely to see how the team fills that void.
