PBA Trade Rumors: Titan superstar Joshua Munzon is on the Trade Block!

The Titan Ultra Giant Risers have placed their Most Improved Player awardee, Joshua Munzon, on the trading block, a move confirmed by team owner Bryann Calantoc, who told Spin.ph that while they value the player, "if Josh is worth the big man we need, why not?"

This decision has ignited a fiery debate. While Munzon is experiencing a slight slump and the team is struggling ($2-6$ record), the franchise's desire to secure a frontline anchor is understandable. The core question is: Does the value of Munzon justify the prize of a top-tier center?

🌟 Joshua Munzon: A Top 25 Player in the PBA

Despite recent losses, the argument that Joshua Munzon is a top 25 player in the league right now is compelling.

Munzon is a dynamic wing who affects the game on both ends of the floor. His career highlights include a PBA Most Improved Player (2025) award and two selections to the PBA All-Defensive Team (2024, 2025).1 This combination of an explosive offensive threat and an elite defender makes him one of the most complete two-way wings in the league. When he is on, he is a primary scoring option, as evidenced by his $31$-point and $27$-point outbursts in the Philippine Cup.

In a league that often lacks high-level two-way wings, Munzon’s presence—a former number one overall pick—is a valuable commodity that few teams possess.

🏰 Titan’s Non-Negotiable: Only a Top 10 Center Will Suffice

The Titan Ultra Giant Risers' management, to its credit, is clear on its need: stability in the slot position. As Calantoc stressed, they need a big man who can provide stability, calling it a "rare commodity."

The analysis is simple: Titan should only trade Joshua Munzon if they can get a top 10 center in the league in return.

Trading a $25$-year-old player of Munzon's two-way caliber for anything less would be a catastrophic move that cripples their perimeter and only provides incremental improvement in the paint. Munzon’s value must be leveraged for a giant center who is an established, dominant force.

  • The Acceptable Targets: Titan must target players who are consistently considered in the league’s top tier of big men, such as a June Mar Fajardo (the unattainable goal), a Christian Standhardinger, or perhaps a modern, floor-stretching center like Moala Tautuaa (who has been linked in trade rumors). These players immediately anchor the defense, elevate the rebounding, and command double teams, which is necessary to balance the team around Abueva and Munzon.

  • The Unacceptable Assets: Trading Munzon for a fringe starting center or a collection of future draft picks (which Calantoc has already stated are not tradeable) would be a step backward. They cannot afford to trade away a young, proven star for a lateral move.

In short, the sacrifice of Munzon is only justifiable if it results in the acquisition of a rare, high-impact big man who instantly transforms Titan from a cellar-dweller into a consistent playoff contender. If they can't get that top-tier size, the best move is to heed Calantoc's desire: "I would love Josh to stay with us."
