PBA Free Agency: TNT star is now available!

The defending champions are making moves before the curtains even go up! Just as the TNT Tropang Giga prepares for their PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup debut against Rain or Shine, they’ve pulled a rabbit out of the hat. Or should I say, they’ve brought back a familiar "Big" face?

Justin Chua is back in the Tropang Giga uniform! Chua, the 36-year-old veteran who was a key piece in TNT’s 2023 Governors' Cup title run, has officially signed a one-conference deal. After testing the waters and grinding it out at the Inspire Sports Academy training camp in Laguna, Coach Chot Reyes saw enough to give him the green light. It’s a homecoming for the "Great Wall of Chua," and he’s being reactivated just in time for Friday’s clash.

BUT HERE IS THE MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTION...

To make room for Chua, TNT had to make a roster move that has every Ka-Sini-Gang talking: They relegated former MVP Kelly Williams to the Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) list. Now, the drums are beating: Is Kelly Williams retired?

Let’s look at the facts. Kelly wasn't just "dropped"—he was placed on the UFA list "with rights to salary." In the language of the PBA, that’s often a very respectful way of saying, "We still value you, we’re still paying you, but we need the roster spot for an active player." At 44 years old, "Machine Gun" Kelly has been defying Father Time for a decade. But with Justin Chua coming in to provide fresh legs and a championship-tested interior defense, the writing might be on the wall. Is this a "soft retirement"? Are we looking at Kelly transitioning into a coaching or consultant role?

TNT hasn't used the "R-word" yet, but moving a legend of his stature to the UFA list right before the conference opener is a massive signal. Whether it's a permanent exit or just a strategic seat on the sidelines, the Tropang Giga frontcourt is officially entering the "Chua Era" once again.

Will the return of Chua be enough to help TNT defend the crown? And is this truly the end of the road for one of the greatest to ever do it? Stay tuned!\
