PBA Trade Rumors: Ginebra wants Meralco guard?

The "Dean" has spoken, and you know when Quinito Henson drops a post with that many exclamation points, the entire PBA community starts looking for hidden meanings!

Quinito recently posted a nostalgia-heavy update that has fans doing a double-take. He mentioned: "Brownlee to Banchero! This scene won’t be repeated in the ongoing PBA Coms Cup… JB & CB were Meralco teammates in the EASL this season but they’ve gone their separate ways in the PBA."

At first glance, it looks like a simple tribute to the Meralco-EASL run where Justin Brownlee and Chris Banchero actually wore the same jersey. But in the world of the PBA, "going separate ways" is often the prologue to a "reunion story."

Is this a Trade Rumor Hint?

Let’s look at the "Brownlee to Banchero" angle. During the EASL, we saw the chemistry—JB’s elite gravity opening up lanes for Banchero’s slashing and outside shooting. It was a "cheat code" that Meralco fans loved. Now, with Brownlee back at Ginebra (debuting March 20 vs. Macau) and Banchero anchoring Meralco’s 2-0 start (debuting March 18 vs. Converge), the "scene won't be repeated"—unless a trade happens.

Why Fans are Speculating:

  1. The "Ginebra Guard" Need: With Scottie Thompson and Jamie Malonzo dealing with injuries, Ginebra is always on the lookout for veteran poise. Banchero is a 4-point pioneer and a proven winner who fits the "Never Say Die" mold perfectly.

  2. The Quinito "Clue": Quinito is an insider among insiders. When he highlights a specific duo and says they've "gone their separate ways," fans often read it as: "Enjoy them on opposite sides for now, because you never know what the trade committee is discussing."

  3. The YouTube Smoke: There are already circulating rumors (the "Banchero to Gins" buzz) that Meralco might be willing to talk trade if the price—or the "superstar" asset—is right.

The Reality: For now, it’s a trip down memory lane. Brownlee is focused on keeping the Kings' record clean, and Banchero is busy leading a Meralco squad that looks like a legitimate title contender. But as we always say, in the PBA, the only thing more permanent than a trade is the rumor that started it.

Was the Dean just being a historian, or was he playing the role of the prophet? Only time—and the next trade deadline—will tell!
