PBA HOT TAKE: Converge is UNDEFEATED and a SCARY Dark Horse!

You look at the standings, you see the Converge FiberXers sitting pretty at 3-0, and you think you’ve seen this movie before. You remember the Commissioner’s Cup—that disastrous, soul-crushing exit that left everyone in the organization wondering if they were ever going to get it right. Well, wipe that memory clean. Because if you’re a power broker for TNT, Ginebra, or San Miguel, and you’re looking at the FiberXers right now, you shouldn't just be interested. You should be worried.

Converge isn't just winning; they’re winning in a way that’s actually frightening for the rest of the league. And here is the thing that really ought to keep those championship contenders up at night: The FiberXers are 3-0 despite playing with one arm tied behind their back.

It isn't about Justin Arana. Don't get me wrong, Arana has been a monster—dropping 14 points against Titan, following it up with 31 against Terrafirma, and then absolutely exploding for 39 against Macau. He’s the engine. But if this team’s success depended solely on him, they’d be a cute story, not a dark horse.

The real reason Converge is a title threat is actually hidden in two glaring, fixable problems.

1. The "Import" Factor

Let’s be blunt: Jalen Hudson has been a non-factor. Through three games, he’s provided 20 points, a staggering 2-point outing against the Dyip, and 12 points against Macau. He is essentially playing like a backup rotation player, not a marquee import.

Here is the implication: Converge is winning without a high-level import. That is an anomaly in the PBA. Either Hudson wakes up and finds the rhythm that made him a prospect in the first place, or Converge realizes they need a change and finds someone who can actually produce. Either way, the only direction for the import position is up. If they get league-average production from that spot, the FiberXers don't just stay in the playoff picture—they become a juggernaut.

2. The Shooting Drought

If you look at the box scores, you’ll see some truly ugly numbers. They opened with zero percent shooting from four-point range and a measly 28% from behind the arc against Titan. They followed that up with 28.6% and 25.8% splits, and stayed in the cellar against Macau at 33.3% and 29.4%.

They are effectively winning games while shooting like they’re wearing blindfolds. This is a league where outside shooting usually dictates the outcome, yet Converge is surviving on grit, interior dominance, and pure force of will. What happens when those shots start falling? What happens when their shooters stop hitting the rim and start finding the bottom of the net?

The top-tier dynasties—the SMC and MVP groups—have always thrived on stability and rhythm. Converge is thriving on chaos and "what if." They are undefeated, they are deep, and they are playing nowhere near their ceiling.

You usually win a championship by playing your best basketball when it matters most. Converge is winning while playing their worst. That is the definition of a dark horse that the established powers should be terrified of. The FiberXers aren't just here to compete; they’re building a foundation that is fundamentally scary, because when everything finally clicks, they’re going to be the most dangerous team in the league.
