On a rainy Friday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup witnessed its biggest upset yet. The Terrafirma Dyip put a sudden halt to the NLEX juggernaut, pulling off a stunning 114-109 victory and handing the Road Warriors their first loss in seven outings under new head coach Jimmy Alapag.
The fact that Terrafirma—a team fighting in the middle of the pack—was the one to blemish NLEX's perfect 6-0 record is undeniably shocking. However, when you look at the bigger picture and the underlying draft implications, the Road Warriors might not be the real losers in this scenario.

NLEX seemed poised to keep their streak alive, erasing an early 21-9 deficit to take a 109-105 lead with just 3:11 remaining following a JB Bahio basket. But then, the Dyip flipped the script.
Terrafirma unleashed a devastating 9-0 closing blast over the final three minutes to seal the win.
The Bench Sparks: Top rookie pick Geo Chiu and Brent Paraiso were instrumental, scoring four points each during the decisive run.

Controlling the Cellar: Blackwater and Terrafirma are currently the top two candidates to secure the #1 overall pick in the next PBA Draft. The race for the bottom is incredibly tight, and surprisingly, Blackwater is having a relatively good run this conference.
By taking an 'L' against Terrafirma, NLEX effectively gave the Dyip a crucial win that improves their record to 3-4. This pushes Terrafirma up the standings and simultaneously sinks Blackwater further down the overall rankings. The worse Blackwater performs relative to Terrafirma, the higher the value of the draft pick that NLEX owns.
