2017 Com. Cup Champ - The Greatest of All Time San Miguel Beermen?

(c) PBA Media Bureau
Congratulations! That is the best way to start this kinds of articles, right?

Of course it is, San Miguel had won the 2017 Commissioner's Cup crown! Their first in 17 years!

But, I don't feel celebratory though. I am not a hater of the San Miguel Beermen but the fan inside me is telling me that San Miguel should not celebrate this accomplishment.

Why?

Because, this team could be the best team in the history of the league! Yes, the team of;
June Mar Fajardo,
Chris Ross,
Alex Cabagnot,
Arwind Santos,
Marcio Lassiter,
Gabby Espinas,
Brian Heruela,
Jay-R Reyes,
Rashawn McCarthy,
Ronald Tubid,
David Semerad,
Arnold Van Opstal
Yancy de Ocampo.
Keith Agovida.

Do you disagree? Don't worry, I am not here to pushed that idea. I am here to elaborate what I felt inside.

The greatness of this team should be satisfied by conference championships alone. Those are great accomplishments. Every team is striving to get it.

But, for a team like the Beermen, championships are not enough. No, championships will make them a bust of a team!

So, what should they accomplished?

GRAND SLAM!

And San Miguel is one crown away.

DON'T BELIEVE ME?

The numbers can explain.

In the last five conferences, the Beermen were a top 5 scoring team. Not amazing enough? Let us go a little further, in the last 8 conferences, the Beermen were a top scoring team! They are the best, twice.

Scoring is not only the glamorous side of the game but like it or not, it is much harder to be a top scoring team than a top defensive team!

Okay, how about in the defensive side? In the last 8 conferences, the team let their opponent shoot less than 45%! That is amazing!

Of course, no other team had accomplished that.

Let us stop the numbers talk. Actually, a plain look at their rosters should be enough! The Kraken could end up as the greatest PBA player of all time. Marcio Lassiter could end up as the greatest 3-and-D player of all time.

You can never compare Chris Ross to anyone in the history of the league! Arwind Santos' accomplishments can only be challenged by a chosen few. And of course, Chris Cabagnot will always be in the conversation when we talk about the greatest clutch scorers in the country.

So, how should I end this article?

San Miguel is a bust this season if they fail to win the 2017 Governors' Cup.
