Height is might in basketball, right?
What happened to Jericho De Guzman, then?
He is a legit 6'11 and he weighs more than 250 pounds! That makes him the 2nd biggest player in the league, next to his own teammate, Greg Slaughter.
It is not as if De Guzman is slower than Greg. And with the little amount of playing that I saw from him, I think Jericho was more athletic than Slaughter.
So, what could be the problem? I think, it is all about his skills. It seems like he is not a bright basketball player. His decision making is suspect and he may not have any scoring moves in his arsenal.
But, isn't it coach Tim Cone is very good in developing players? His scheme made Greg Slaughter the 2nd most impactful player, behind Junemar Fajardo.
So, what happened with De Guzman?
Let us not try to answer it already, because Jericho is already in line for a chance of a lifetime. Pasig Pirates is on the deck to sign him for the next conference of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Pasig Pirates will be one of the several teams that already signed as expansion teams in the next cup of the amateur basketball league.
In MPBL, the pressure will be high for Jericho. Why? He will be the tallest player in the league. I am willing to bet that there are teams in that league that will not have a taller than 6'5 player in their line-up.
With that kind of advantage, Jericho should dominate. When I say dominate, I am talking about a per game average of at least 22 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks and 60% FG.
If he can do that, I am pretty sure playing time in the PBA will open up for him.
