It seems like Raymond Almazan is out of the trade block of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. After the surprise report about Almazan, Belga and Cruz wanting out of the franchise, a lot of people anticipated Rain or Shine to really make moves.
They did with Jericho Cruz, who was sent to TNT for a package centered around the 2018 1st of Ka Tropa. But their two bigs remained in their fold up to this point.
In an interview with Spin.ph, Raymond Almazan expressed confusion regarding the persistence of the trade rumors around him.
The key statement was this, "nag-usap kami ni Coach Caloy at nakakagaan naman ng loob na hindi naman totoo. Kasi kahit na ba sabihin mong rumors lang yun, may mga lumalabas kasi.”
The supposed reason why he wanted a new team is coach Caloy Garcia. But if that statement is true, then the two may have mended their relationship.
But, the real fact is, he played badly in the 2018 Philippine Cup. He only averaged 8.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 turnovers and 43.2% FG per game.
Those numbers are evidence of discomfort. But now that he opened up to the media, there is a good chance he is really out of the trade block.
But I think the real reason why he expressed those statements is, Rain or Shine is not getting the package that they wanted for him. Which could be sad, because Almazan may not continue his rise to prominence if he is playing for a coach that he may not be fond of.
