Remember the hype about Johnny Abarrientos possibly playing for an NBA team in his heydays? Coach Tim Cone solidified that as a fact.
In that same interview, coach Cone revealed that he got an NBA D-League tryout for the Dallas Mavericks affiliate team for Junemar Fajardo. He never said that to the Kraken so Fajardo did not get the chance to decide.
When that was revealed to The Kraken, his responses where interesting. First, he actually said that if that pushed through, he will be more thankful!
And when asked about playing in another league abroad, he answered, "why not".
Should Junemar Fajardo pursue a career in an international league? The answer is yes.
The Kraken has been dominating the PBA in the last five seasons, including this one. He already won four Most Valuable Player award and he did that in consecutive fashion!
Wait, do not forget that he is basically on track to continue that streak this season and get his fifth plum!
He is tied with Ramon Fernandez and Alvin Patrimonio for most number of MVP awards. But the fact that he is grabbing the award in consecutive fashion makes him a way more dominant player than those two PBA legends.
One more thing that you need to remember, he is only in his 6th year in the league! Which means his first MVP season was his sophomore season!
Fernandez won his first MVP in his 8th season in the league. Patrimonio's initial MVP year was his 4th year in the league. The difference is big.
And if he wins his fifth this season, are you going to bet against me that he will at least win two more MVPs? And he can easily collect 10 MVP trophies if he plays in the PBA until he is 40?
The Kraken has outgrown the PBA. He is a legit international caliber player. The fact that he can maintain his production against foreign reinforcements is a proof of that.
I am pretty sure he will not be as dominant in a league abroad. But if he can be respectable, it will elevate the Filipino brand of basketball.
