At this point, Meralco Bolts should have recognized that their deficiencies will be hard to overcome. At this point, they should realize that they badly need to either get a starting caliber big or a super-talented player that can carry them even with their hole, inside.
In short, they should feel bad that the rumored Bobby Ray Parks trade to Meralco was not realized.
Meralco is not the worst team in the league but I do not think we should see them as a serious title contender. They are the 4th worst in FG% and worst in 3FG%.
Two important statistical points for a team to have a real chance of getting the crown. There is a good chance that their 3FG% will increase because they attempt a lot but if you look at their line-up, they do not have a proven elite shooter. So, are you going to bet that they will suddenly turn it around?
What they have is a very athletic and hardworking line-up with switchable parts. Replacing Baser Amer with Parks would give them one of the most unique backcourt in the league.
A backcourt that is talented and complicated enough to overcome what they will give up inside.
Parks and Newsome. If Meralco will find a way to join the two, they will suddenly boost the tallest backcourt in the league and may also be the one of the most athletic.
With their size and athleticism, the two will have a great advantage over any other backcourt. Almost all starting backcourts feature a player shorter than 6'0. That means one of them will have a clear view in getting into his shots or making plays for others.
The question now is, will Meralco realize that this is already a loss conference?
When we say loss conference, it means the team is not really capable of even reaching the finals.
I have the feeling that Meralco will end up with that conclusion but they will be late because they do have the talent to beat the lowly teams like Blackwater Elite.
That will give them false hope that they do what it takes.
The earlier that they realize that their deficiencies are hard to overcome, the better for them.
Or in other words, the earlier that they pushed harder for Parks, the better.
agree :)
