If you are one of those who hate Magnolia, who hates the PBA, who hates imbalance and who believes that some franchises received unfair advantages from the league, you could be celebrating in a way after PBA referees missed a call that provided extra three points to Magnolia Hotshots in the game 7 of their semifinals series against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Unfortunately, you could be overthinking if you believed that, that missed call decided the game!
Remember, that call was made at 3:30 of the 4th quarter! 3 minutes and 30 seconds was too much of a time for us to conclude that one missed call decided the game.
Although, the commissioner was right to point out that it could have been much better if there was a rule that may have given the referees the opportunity to reverse that call. Unfortunately, only shots in the last two minutes are allowed to be reviewed and reversed.
Actually, the referees even look at the table officials for what to call! If they were paid by the SMC, they could have called it a made shot right away.
If I was one of the referees and I was paid to help Magnolia win, I will not do that in a call at the 3:30 mark.
At that point, I have witnessed how physical was Beau Belga against Ian Sangalang. I will just wait for it to continue in the last two minutes and call as much as possible.
You still do not believe me that Magnolia did not receive assistance from the referees?
How about the fact that Magnolia got called for 22 fouls while Rain or Shine managed 21?
Do you want more?
How about the fact that Magnolia committed 25 turnovers while Rain or Shine only received 19?
Here is another big one, entering the last two minutes of the 4th quarter, Magnolia was already called for five fouls while Rain or Shine was whistled twice, only, in the fourth quarter!
The last nail in the coffin was the graduation of Mark Barroca because of his six fouls.
If I paid the referees to help Magnolia, I will retrieve back my payments because they did not do what they needed to do!
I hate it when controversies bury how great that semifinal series was! Rain or Shine did their best but in that game 7, the better team won.
