Let me give you an amazing fact to start this piece. The Kraken, June Mar Fajardo, is only 29 years old.
Yes, at 29 years, Fajardo already accumulated awards that could make any other PBA player legendary in the history of the league! He has five Most Valuable Player and eight Best Player of the Conference, six in the Philippine Cup!
For this conference, he was again the runaway winner by topping the statistical points, media votes, players votes and the choice of the PBA office.
It has reached the point that June Mar is not competing with anyone in his era but against imagination.
For those old fans out there, did you even imagine a player who can outnumber the four MVPs of Alvin Patrimonio and Ramon Fernandez at age 29?
No way!
At 29 years old, there is no question Fajardo is the most impactful player in the league and barring a serious injury, he should be that guy again next season. This conference, he averaged 22.1 points, first in the league, 12.5 rebounds, first in the league and 1.7 blocks per game, fourth in the league.
So, how many more PBA Philippine Cup Best Player Award will Fajardo wins?
I will go with three which will push his total to nine.
Let us imagine him playing ten more seasons. So, what I am trying to say is that he will be the best player of the Philippine Cup in three of those next 10 seasons. So, what happened to the other seven?
I believed father time will catch up to him in his last three seasons. If you observed, the level of the players that are entering the PBA is improving. So at 36 years old, it is hard to fathom Fajardo to be one of the top 5 players still in the league.
In his 34 and 35 years old season, I can see voter's fatigue sinking in and with new shiny new names, I expect others to have a good shot at getting the award.
Overall, I am predicting him to win three of the next five BPC of the Philippine Cup.
