Alaska's new ace player is... And how good are their rookies?

The Alaska Aces made sure that their first three picks in the 2019 PBA draft will not be wasted as each draftee is now part of their team. They used the #4 pick on Barley Ebona of FEU. While the #16 and #17 selections were Rey Publico and Jaycee Marcelino, respectively.

When asked about his three rookies, coach Jeff Cariaso gave them high praises but he was honest enough to reveal that Jaycee has been the most impressive one. He told the media that Jaycee has been learning pretty well and giving a hard time to their veterans. The product of Lyceum is also pushing himself up in the guard depth of Alaska.

It is not shocking that the guard is the most impressive because, in practice, they usually handle the ball more, giving them more opportunity to show-off. Jaycee is not that athletic but he is very quick with a very good handle and touches around the basket.

Is he a point guard? I am not really sure about this one because I do not think he has the playmaking chops already to be a point guard in the PBA.

On the other news, the Alaska Aces has chosen their next Ace player.

The team governor, Richard Bachmann, revealed to the media that the team will now emphasize youth and that they will now run their team around Jeron Teng.

 Why not?

Jeron Teng is the #5 pick of the 2017 PBA draft and the guy is still 25 years old! He is younger than Kiefer Ravena, CJ Perez and almost all the other young studs in the PBA.

Teng showcased a lot of improvement last season where he averaged 11.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 40% FG and 28% 3FG per game.

The key for him has always been his three-point shooting. Without that, it will be very hard for him to be an efficient scorer. He will also be a hard player to build around because it will always be negative if they will play a non-shooter with him.

Overall though, I am excited to see Jeron take this mantle and see if he can really be the Ace player of Alaska.
