After we saw the National Basketball Association come up with a plan on how they will finish their on-going season, the Philippine Basketball Association have asked the Inter-Agency Task Force about the resumption of practice by next month.
The PBA will have strict safety protocols and at the top of them will be the testing of all the players involved.
Speaking of testing, the top two conglomerates in the league, SMC and the MVP group have tested all their players and staffs and all of them turn out to be negative.
While we fans are really craving for the league to return, we have forgotten about the voices of the players themselves.
Finally, one player has commented on this proposed return of practice.
This is reality. The players who will play will be the ones who will be risking their own health and the safety of their family. Knowing that we are talking about basketball, one infection can easily lead to an outbreak. We all saw that in the NBA.Risking personal and family safety so that we can train now for games that won’t start until earliest September?!? What’s the rush? No advancement scientifically for the virus. I wanna play ball and get back to work as bad as anyone out there but at what risk??— Chris Ross (@cmross6) June 3, 2020
Now at the back of this, the issue of the PBA players not having a union could finally come into the spotlight.
In that post of Ross, one former PBA player commented and said that the players must be consulted. He was answered by Fidel Mangonon III, the #1 sports statistician in the country with this.
You think they have a say in the current set-up (which has basically been the same in the past which you were part of)?Without a union, the players technically have no say about this matter.
The question now is, what if there are players that will choose not to play once the PBA returns?
