Rudy Distrito was not absolutely right about Calvin Abueva

I have been a big proponent for the lifting of the indefinite suspension of Calvin Abueva. Just the indefinite part alone and not providing the public with the parameter of the suspension was too much because of the control that the PBA commissioner had.

So, I was happy when Rudy Distrito asked the PBA to finally lift Calvin's suspension in a Go For Gold Interactive sports program on Facebook.

Rudy was right when he said that the sentiment of the fans in the social media was for the lifting of the suspension of Abueva.

For those who are not aware of who Rudy Distrito is, he is a former PBA player who has the monicker of The Destroyer because of how rugged and physical he was on the court.

Actually, he received a lifetime ban from the PBA in 1995 under commissioner Jun Bernardino for committing a flagrant foul against rookie Jeff Cariaso.

Now, I do disagree with some of his comments about Calvin Abueva.

He said that what Calvin did to the import, potentially referring to Calvin's lariat to Terrence Jones, was a normal thing that normal players do.

I am pretty sure I do not normally see local players hurting imports during games by throwing their arms or fists above the body. Also, Calvin's action against Terrence was also clear that the intention was not only to be physical but to hurt the guy.

Also, he described Calvin' style as "makulit at mapang-asar". Calvin' style is beyond makulit. The guy is really a physical player that could be better if he tones it down because Calvin is talented enough to make an impact in a game without getting physical.

But in the end, Rudy was absolutely right when he said that the indefinite suspension of Calvin was for bad persons. And I do agree that Calvin is not that bad to deserve it.
