The first amateur player who told the media about his intentions of participating in the upcoming PBA draft is Jeremiah Gray.
Gray played for Alab Pilipinas and was actually hyped as the guy that will fill the shoes of Bobby Ray Parks. That expectation was not met as he only averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.
Nevertheless, his potential is really because of his athleticism at 6'6. He can play the wing position easily.
He told the media that he wants to play for Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel. He said that he appreciates the culture of the franchise and that he wants to play under the legendary coach Tim Cone.
The question is, will he be able when Ginebra's turn to draft, comes?
I doubt it. Ginebra will end up with the best record in the PBA bubble after the elimination round, increasing the chances that they will be getting a bottom 3 pick.
And Gray is a blue-chip prospect. Even if all of the expected premium prospects will be entering this draft, it is highly unlikely that Gray will still be there after #6.
Ginebra can also trade for a much higher pick but I do not think they will do that to draft a wingman like Gray.
It is pretty obvious that if Greg Slaughter doesn't return, they will need to add a new center, or to be more specific, a giant.
That is the reason why they are still connected to the rumored Standhardinger trade. And I do not think they can trade up for Gray and still trade for Standhardinger.
