So, Ginebra is just one win away from winning the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup. With the injuries to Jayson Castro and Ray Parks, it will be hard to bet against the most popular ball club in the country.
If Ginebra does it, I think one of the most interesting questions that will sprout will be about the rumored Christian Standhardinger trade.
According to the buzz, he was supposed to be on his way to Ginebra. Unfortunately, Greg Slaughter' sabbatical happened.
Now, if Ginebra succeeds in showing that they can win a championship with their current core, no Standhardinger and no Slaughter, I think it will be hard for the management to convince themselves that they need to make a big change.
Especially if we consider the reality that they may need to sacrifice one of their big names to do the trade. Unless, they will do another Stanley Pringle trade, which will surely be criticized.
Also, Magnolia looks like the SMC team that needs the most boost if Ginebra wins a crown. Out of the three SMC teams, Magnolia is the one that has been the furthest from a championship conquest in the last few years.
Rafi Reavis and Marc Pingris are also aging already and I do not think the two of them are still capable of playing 20+ good minutes next year.
Overall, I expect the management of SMC to do the most logical move and provide help for Magnolia as Ginebra celebrates their most recent championship.
