If you think Calvin Abueva will now wear a Magnolia uniform at his first PBA game this year, you better think twice.
Governor Rene Pardo of the Hotshots told the media that they are willing to trade Calvin for the right package.
So, let us check this popular trade buzz.
Magnolia trade: Calvin Abueva, Justin Melton, 2nd round Pick
Northport trade: Christian Standhardinger
First question, is this trade fair?
The value of a giant, especially if he is the 2nd best giant in the league, is higher than any other superstars in the league.
Abueva is a special guy. He is the most popular player in the PBA, today. He can fill the statsheet better than anybody else.
But in terms of winning a championship, a Standhardinger is more important. So, can Melton and a 2nd round pick equate to the difference between Standhardinger and Abueva?
I think the answer is no. Melton is already moving out of his prime and a 2nd round pick is not that valuable.
Although, knowing Calvin's popularity, this type of deal will be fine for the majority of the PBA universe.
So, can this trade become reality?
Why not? Gov. Pardo told us that he is willing to trade Abueva and reading between the lines in his previous interviews, he understands the value of a Standhardinger.
