PBA Controversy: PBA suspends games! Is this the right decision?

In support of the government's command in addressing the unwanted rise of COVID-19 Delta variant infections, and its announcement of placing the National Capital Region (NCR) or Metro Manila under GCQ with heightened and additional restrictions from July 30 to August 5,  the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is temporarily suspending its Philippine Cup games starting, yesterday.

Fortunately, the league has a plan B. The league is waiting for the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF EID) decision regarding its request to temporarily transfer and continue its games in Lipa, Batangas as NCR will be under ECQ, the strictest quarantine status, from August 6 to 20.

Was this the right decision, though?

I think it was not. They have already a good system in catching up and isolating the teams that will have a COVID-19 infection, so I do not think that suspending the game is the most productive way in helping out.

If a player or a part of the coaching staff will get the virus, they are right away caught because of the weekly testing.

Now that they are suspending games, they will not conduct weekly testing. And that actually make each player and part of the coaching staff, riskier to the society.

Also, this could have been a good time to showcase that we can already run like normal even with the presence of another surge.

Unfortunately, the fear won again.
