What do you think is the rule that Terrafirma Dyip, Blackwater Elite and Northport Batang Pier are the most thankful for?
It is the rule that sister teams like San Miguel Beermen, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Magnolia Hotshots, cannot trade with each other without a conduit.
That is basically 50% of the reason why the farm teams are being financially supported by the big conglomerates.
Here is bad news for them. For the upcoming unrestricted free agents, there is no rule that will prevent players from going to a sister team of their current team.
Yes, the time will come that the conglomerates in the PBA can just arrange the roster of their squad, through free agency.
This upcoming offseason, Kevin Alas, Rome Dela Rosa and other upcoming unrestricted free-agent can be assigned to a sister team, and they can move freely. Actually, Stanley Pringle is at the top of this draft but he is already locked in a contract. So, he will not be a free-agent after this season.
This will now reduce the usefulness of the farm teams. Now, our hope is that this will decrease the financial incentive that they will get, enough for them to sell their franchise to a legitimate company that would want to compete.
Next year, we will be having the 2015 PBA draft as the batch that will be allowed to enter Unrestricted Free-Agency.
Tautuaa could be the biggest name available.
