2022 Top 100 Players: 50th to 26th - Magnolia superstar slides!

Finally, we are done with our fourth ever top 100 lists! We will present today the 50th to 26th rank player. And then the next one will be the 50th to 26th.

To rank them, we used the following criteria.

Scoring (S) - 30

Primarily, this is the ability of the player to score. Their points per game were the primary statistics that were scrutinized but we also give a huge weight on the efficiency of the player. We also factor in the fact that there are a hundred ways to score. So the more ways a player scores efficiently will also increase his points in this area.

Defense (D) - 30

Defense represents 50% of the game for a player. This score will take into account the ability of the player to stop someone, man-to-man. Now, the defense is not all about man-to-man but also about the capacity of a player to work in the defensive scheme of a team. Enjoined in this area is the ability of the player to get rebounds and to help his team control the flow of the game.

Offense (O) - 25

Scoring is the only goal of offense but the other factors that will pave the way for good scoring opportunities will reside in this area. Primarily, this is about the ability of the player to break down defenses and make plays for his teammates. Added to this is the intelligence of the player in making the right plays, reads and positions in helping out the team take a good shot.

Intangibles (I) - 15

There are four other elements of a player that basically form this criterion. They are leadership, chemistry, clutch, and health. Those four are not part of the first three but actually elevate a player. A good example is LA Tenorio. LA is not as valuable as the Tenorio that we know today without his ability to command and his 100% health status.

In the case of ties, they will be ranked according to age with the youngest being the highest. The previous performances of the players were also considered in assessing them.

Rank. Name of the Player. Scoring/Defense/Offense/Intangibles

#50 M. Ganuelas-Rosser 9/24/14/8.5

#49 J. Mocon 16/17/14.5/8

#48 R. Nambatac 18/12/16/10

#47 R. Reavis 8/26/11/11.5

#46 V. Manuel 20.5/14/12.5/9.5

Matthew is easily one of the most unique player in the league. He is 6'5 who can play the point guard position, comfortably. His defense has been consistently good and with acceptable level of playmaking.

Mocon had a good season enough for him to force his way into a new team. He has a massive weakness in his handle but the number of good skills easily overwhelm that weakness.

Rey continue to increase his scoring production. Last Governors' cup, Rey averaged 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 40% FG per game. Now that Mocon is gone, Rey can easily claim that Face of the ROS franchise throne.

It reached the point that a lot of younger players are retiring before Rafi. Even at his age, Rafi remains to have a good claim to be the most versatile defender out of all the giants in the league.

The Muscle Man' scoring was sustained in his first season with San Miguel but what is worrying is his defense. It is regressing but his offensive output is still way better than his defensive impact.

#45 J. Casio 18.5/8/19.5/12
#44 J. Chua 13.5/20/16/9
#43 R. Herndon 13/22/14.5/9
#42 A. Maliksi 21.5/10/17.5/10
#41 R. Almazan 11.5/26/14/7.5

Casio will not put up an amazing highlight reel but the guy is still one of the most reliable pure point guard in the country. His a smooth shooter and capable of running an offense even if it is with the weakest roster in the league.

Chua managed to keep a a top 50 spot but his most recent season is actually not that good. Now that he is with the NLEX and coach Yeng Guiao, I am interested to see if he will show us improvements from his game.

Herndon was just traded for two 2nd round picks and I think that is not the value of a Herndon. He has a good built and can really lockdown wings in the league. Add his very good three-point shooting and you have here a well-built 3-and-D forward.

Maliksi was carried by his pull-up shooting into this spot. With his ability to take a shot against any wing defender out there with his high and quick release, he can easily bend  the defense.

Almazan is one of those players that you really hope to see having a healthy full season. The guy is an excellent rim protector. He can carry the defense of Meralco against the non-elite teams. And offensive, his catch-and-shoot operation is progressing.

#40 J. Rosario 14.5/17.5/17/10
#39 J. Teng 19/12.5/17.5/10
#38 A. Cabagnot 15.5/13/19.5/12
#37 D. Trollano 12.5/22.5/15/10
#36 G. Norwood 7.5/23/18/12.5

Rosario is only one of two PBA players right now who can say that they can protect the rim. Defend in the perimeter. Provide above-average spacing and switch to multiple positions on defense.

Teng was anointed as the last Face of the Alaska franchise. I can see that a lot of fans are still clamoring for more from Jeron but his Governors' cup production of 12.9 points, 40% FG, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game is still a good one.

Before he got injured, Alex proved in his first conference in Terrafirma that he is still a capable ace playmaker of a team. Although, he is very inefficient now, his leadership can easily cover for that.

Don may have one of the least amount of hype for a player capable of pulling-up from beyond the arc. Who can defend multiple positions. Who has an above average first step. And very diligent in recovering on defense.

Gabe's defense is regressing but he is still one of the most flexible stopper in the league. He can defend multiple positions and then handle the ball on offense. Add his leadership and good health and you have a top 40 player in your hand.

#35 S. Anthony 17/21/17/8.5
#34 K. Alas 22/12/18.5/10
#33 J. Quinahan 13/23.5/15.5/11
#32 C. Ross 7.5/28.5/18/10.5
#31 J. Tiongson 25/9/18/12.5

Sean Anthony failed to play in the Governors' Cup because of an injury. Nevertheless, he was still the inefficient but very versatile forward in the Philippine Cup. There is a good chance though that with his injuries, he will slide next year.

After multiple injury-riddled season, Kevin finally broke out last season. Now that he is the main man of NLEX, he delivered 15.0 points, 43% FG, 4.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game in the Governors' Cup.

Quinahan continue to be a stable force for NLEX. He is at the top tier in terms of rim protection. With his strength, he can easily meet all type of guards in the rim. Add his flashy passing and NLEX have a reliable starting-caliber center.

It is quite shocking that Ross is the one that is still in the SMB team instead of Arwind Santos or Alex Cabagnot. Ross is elite in two things, defense and passing. There is a good argument that Chris is the most impactful defensive player in the league, pound-for-pound.

Juami deservingly won the Most Improved Player of award. He has finally found the opportunity to prove that he is a starting caliber guard in the league.

#30 M. Lassiter 16/15.5/22.5/11
#29 P. Lee 24.5/12/19.5/9
#28 C. Hodge 11/25.5/16.5/13
#27 J. Erram 14/29.5/14/9
#26 C. Perez 26/13/17/10.5

If you want to appreciate the value of spacing, you should watch Marcio Lassiter. You will observed a lot of time wherein his off-ball movement will magnetize at least one other defender to move a step towards him just because he is moving.

There is a reason why Paul has been the biggest name in the trade rumor mill. He was bad last season. He shot lower than 39% on both conference. His defense was lackluster and his health never stabilize. There is a good chance that his weight and health is finally catching up to his game.

On the other hand, Cliff continue to be one of the most successful "pure hardwork" guys in the league. He is not a scorer. He is not a passer. He is not a shooter. But the guy is willing to die to open up his teammates. In grabbing the rebounds and on defending guards and bigmen.

I do understand that JP is not a well-loved player in the league. Nevertheless, Erram could be the most effective rim protector in the league. He is also good in switching to guards and of course, he can stop the giants in the country.

CJ Perez is still adjusting to his new role in San Miguel. He is not putting up monstrous numbers but 15.8 points,  5.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game last Philippine Cup was still really good.
