There is no question that the PBA is facing the heaviest barrage of controversy in the last few years. Basically, every controversy in the last few years is heating up at the same time.
Farm team trades just happened and fans are furious. The PBA started to make their move against the movement of players to International league. The PBA is connected to the current issue of the national team.
There is actually another professional league in the country. It is called Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. Their 2022-2023 season is on going and fans are crowding their games in the home turfs of the teams.
The home-and-away format of the league is working like fine gold as fans are really flocking the games and showing support for their teams.
And remember when there are a lot of controversies around the league like game-fixing? It seems like those have died down already.
Even fans in the social media are appreciating the fact that there is no predictability in the league. In short, there are no teams who are indebted to others.
In short, MPBL is better in terms of the competition aspect. While the PBA is of course better in terms of quality and overall entertainment value.
But the home-and-away format tilt it for me in favor of MPBL.
