Meralco Bolts finally found the light and will now replace their first import, Johnny O'Bryant. Johnny ended up producing 26.0 points, 39% FG, 30% 3FG, 14.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.8 block and 4.2 turnovers per game.
Number wise, Johnny ended up manufacturing acceptable numbers. Except the efficiency and that is the one that killed his impact to Meralco. Then add his poor diligence on defense and he was a disaster for Meralco.
They will now replace him with Jessie Govan, a former part of the G League Ignite.
Govan is only 25 years old and he ended up averaging 7.3 points, 59% FG, 4.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 turnovers per game.
It seems like he is not that much of a three-point shooter. Of course, we know that Meralco Bolts badly need spacing because of the construction of the team.
Also, he is more of a midrange operator. Although, I do not think he is excellent in creating his shots. That could be bad because the defense will focus on him.
Overall though, if he is a bad one, Meralco will be fine because that will help the Bolts in getting a much better pick in the upcoming draft.
So for me, this decision is fine.
