Last February, I wrote the my first ranking of the top 5 potential #1 pick for the 2023 draft of the PBA. Here was that article.
Now, another name should be considered. AJ Edu may have hinted about joining the upcoming draft when he did not give a definite answer when he was asked.
Is he the best bet to become the #1 pick now?
#5 Deschon Winston
With the silence in the development in the career of Winston, the chances that he will join the upcoming draft is going down now. Nevertheless, he is still a legit candidate for the top pick.
#4 Luis Villegas
Villegas has the characteristic of building up hype to grab the #1 pick. Being 6'8 with legit above-average efficiency from beyond the arc can do that to anybody.
#3 Justine Baltazar
I slide Baltazar due to two reasons. First, the two names above him seem to have bigger hype at this point. And the reality that Converge, the team that wants him badly, may not get him at the top pick.
#2 Sedrick Barefield
It seems like the resume of Barefield has pushed him above Baltazar in the eyes of a lot of people. According to an interview, Sedrick and Justine are the guys that the head coach of Terrafirma is considering.
#1 AJ Edu
Knowing that he was even considered to be at part with Kai Sotto several years ago should be enough to propel AJ at the top of this ranking.
