TNT Tropang Giga, the powerhouse team in the PBA, has officially joined the race to sign free agent Maverick Ahanmisi. The player's agent, Danny Espiritu, confirmed the development in an interview with SPIN.ph on Wednesday night.
Espiritu stated that they are awaiting Ahanmisi's return to the Philippines, and it will be the player's decision whether he will join TNT or opt for a team within the San Miguel Corporation group.
Earlier, Snow Badua tweeted that Ahanmisi has a standing offer from a team in the San Miguel bloc after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with his previous team, the Converge FiberXers.
While Ahanmisi's performance in the 2022-23 PBA season was modest, appearing in 38 games with averages of 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, he had a standout performance during the 2023 Governor's Cup. During the tournament, he showcased his skills, averaging 19.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.08 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest.
Now, the big question is, which side is the right one for Maverick?
Without any knowledge about the financial offer, we can only look at the fit. In my eyes, the Beermen could be the worst fit for Maverick because they have the most number of ball-handlers and they also have a dominant bigman that needs the ball.
After that will be TNT. So, Ginebra and Magnolia in my eyes are better fit than TNT. The report points to SMC as a whole.
So, if the offer is coming from Ginebra or Magnolia, Maverick should choose them. But if it is coming from the Beermen, TNT is the better choice.
