POY Erram's participation in PBA Season 48 appears uncertain as he recently underwent knee surgery. The seasoned big man anticipates a recovery period of six months or more following the procedure, leading him to make the decision to step back from playing for Gilas Pilipinas.
Erram revealed that he will be out of action for a significant duration, indicating a timeline of six to eight months for his recovery. With the Commissioner’s Cup scheduled to commence on October 15 and conclude by February, followed by the Philippine Cup in the subsequent weeks, Erram's return for the upcoming PBA season seems improbable.
Diagnosed with an MCL tear, swollen cartilage, and bone spurs, Erram acknowledged his astonishment at the diagnosis. His condition took a surprising turn after participating in Gilas Pilipinas' three-week training camp in Europe as part of the training pool for the FIBA World Cup.
Recalling the sequence of events, Erram shared, "To be honest, I was also surprised. Because before we left, my body was in excellent condition. When we returned from the camp, the swelling persisted, and the pain intensified."
Despite grappling with the discomfort in his knee, Erram remained engaged in Gilas practices, though he was no longer required to partake in team scrimmages. Subsequently, the national team coaching staff made the decision to rest him during the mini-pocket tournament in Guandong, China, which presented an opportunity for him to address his injuries through surgery.
The outcome of his health condition prompted Erram to use social media to announce his retirement from national team play, expressing his gratitude and reflecting on his journey.
So, should TNT look to trade for a center?
I think the answer is clearly yes. Kelly Williams is old. Justin Chua will be coming of an injury. Mark Acuno is very green.
