2023 PBA Draft: San Miguel sign Kyt Jimenez because of his skills or because he is TRENDING?

Kyt Jimenez is now officially a part of the San Miguel Beermen. The social media sensation, who was selected in the ninth round as the 76th overall pick in the PBA Season 48 draft, has signed a two-year contract with the team. This signing was confirmed by San Miguel's team manager, Gee Abanilla.

Jimenez is set to join the Beermen in the upcoming season after his stint with Gensan in the MPBL, where he previously recorded a historic quadruple-double. He has now made history as the lowest draft pick to secure a contract with a PBA club.

Widely recognized as one of the most popular players in the draft, Jimenez gained fame through his previous videos with Mavs Phenomenal before making a name for himself online. He will now be teammates with his idol, Terrence Romeo.

In the ongoing MPBL season, Jimenez is averaging 7.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals for the Warriors.

Additionally, San Miguel has signed Troy Mallillin to a two-year deal. Mallillin was the Beermen's No. 35 pick in the draft and is currently averaging 12.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks for Rizal in the MPBL.

So, was he signed because of his skills or because he is popular?

Look at his numbers in MPBL. That is for 19 games sample. He shot 40% from the field. In short. He struggled really bad.

Although, his skills is also very obvious. But, his defensive woes are also very obvious. Looking at it and knowing that San Miguel is loaded in guards, I think the answer to the question is clear.
