In a recent interview with PlayitRight TV, a YouTube sports channel hosted by Quinito Henson and Dyan Castillejo, the former University of the Philippines standout discussed his rehabilitation journey and his timeline for returning to the court. Lucero emphasized the importance of not rushing his recovery to avoid reinjury.
He expressed his intention to be fully recovered and in prime condition before making his debut, indicating that the second conference might be the right time for him to suit up for the Batang Pier. He mentioned that November 5, the start of the season, would be too soon for his return.
Although Lucero is eager to begin his professional career, he acknowledged the challenges of the recovery process. He has been diligently working on his rehabilitation, spending four times a week in Vallejo, California, for knee rehab. Despite the difficulties, he remains positive and is determined to represent his family on the basketball court.
In his final year with UP, Lucero demonstrated his resilience by making a brief appearance in Game 3 of the title series against Ateneo, shooting two free throws with 0.7 seconds left. Prior to his injury, he had a strong season, averaging 11.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game during UAAP Season 85.
In the eyes of the fans though, they are just waiting for the inevitable. So, when could be the trade?
#3. Beyond 2024
Knowing that Lucero is a forward and all of the SMC teams are in need of one. So, it is hard for me to see him going beyond 2024. Specially if he is intended for San Miguel. San Miguel can trade already for him and it is the perfect decision.
#2. 2023
Do not count out the possibility that he will be traded this year. Remember that Jeremiah Gray was traded to Ginebra even with his injury. Remember that they can use the injury to explain the unacceptable package that Northport will get.
#1. 2024
The most logical choice is 2024. They will wait for him to get healthy. Knowing that Magnolia, San Miguel and Ginebra all need a forward, the top management will need time to decide.
