Terrafirma head coach John Cardel is currently in a waiting game following the selection of Filipino-American guard Stephen Holt as the top overall pick in the 2023 PBA Rookie Draft. Holt, a 31-year-old with an impressive resume, was chosen as the team's top rookie, joining the ranks of CJ Perez in 2018, Roosevelt Adams in 2019, and Joshua Munzon in 2021.
Now, the main priority for Terrafirma team manager Ronald Tubid is finalizing Holt's contract negotiations with the team. Cardel is hopeful that Holt can join the team's practice by next week, but there's no definite timeline as of now.
Holt's agent, Marvin Espiritu, explained that Holt's arrival in Manila is pending due to personal reasons. Holt's wife recently gave birth to their first child in Portland, Oregon.
Despite the delay, Cardel and the players are eager to work with Holt, who has international basketball experience, including a stint with the Canton Charge in the 2014-15 NBA G League season, where he displayed his skills with averages of 11.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
Now, fans are asking if it is just a matter of time. So, when will Holt be traded?
#3. 2024 offseason
I doubt that he will play a complete season for Terrafirma. The guy is already 31 years old and I think every SMC team can benefit from a main offensive player.
#2. 2024
At the middle is the possibility that the San Miguel Corporation will let Holt start his career in Terrafirma to avoid the ire of the PBA fans.
#1. Before 2023-2024
I think this is still the most likely scenario. If they managed to trade Jeremiah Gray right away and he was even injured. I am pretty sure that they are even more excited to get a player with the pedigree of Holt.
