The Philippine Basketball Association has been gradually recovering its financial losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. League chairman Ricky Vargas shared that the revenue growth of the PBA is approaching the levels seen before the pandemic, despite the cancellation of one conference. Vargas expressed gratitude to TV5 for their support in allowing the conference cancellation for the country's benefit, as the PBA is only holding two conferences this year due to the Philippines' hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
At the Board of Governors' annual meeting in Paris earlier this year, it was determined that the PBA needed to adapt to the current situation. Vargas emphasized that during their time in Paris, the board worked on a strategic plan, leading to the passage of two crucial rules to facilitate the return of players from overseas campaigns and to simplify the entry of players into the draft.
Additionally, the board decided to expand the league's meambership, allowing for the inclusion of two more teams alongside the current roster. Vargas, who serves as the TNT Governor, expressed the intention to grow the PBA membership, highlighting the plans for expansion.
Furthermore, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial has been actively engaging with other top leagues in Asia, including the B.League, the KBL, and the CBA, to strengthen the PBA's connections with these leagues and promote collaboration. Vargas underlined the importance of these efforts in enhancing the PBA's standing in the region, positioning the Philippines as the leading league in Asia for the next four years.
So, who are the top 3 companies that we believed to be the perfect addition to the league? The most important ingredient is independence.
#3. Cebu Land Master
I am intrigued to add a team that is clearly tied to Visayas province. I think this company can have a good fan base right away and with their connection to the province, the chances that they will not take it serious is low.
#2. Chooks to Go
They are a top choice the moment they publicize their desire to join. They are spending a lot in 3x3. I am pretty sure they will also take 5x5, seriously.
#1. Pampanga team
Chooks to Go is already a dream but at this point, a team owned by Governor Delta is even a much bigger dream. What I am sure about is the seriousness of Governor Delta in winning basketball tournament.
