PBA Controversy: Should Strong Group accept the invitation of Taiwan P League?

According to the head coach of the Jones Cup 2024 champion Strong Group, coach Charles Tiu, the franchise is invited to be a guest team for the next season of the Taiwan P League.

Taiwan's P. League+ has emerged as a dynamic force in Asian basketball. Founded in 2020, the league has quickly gained traction with its fast-paced, entertaining brand of basketball. Featuring a mix of local and international talent, the P. League+ has successfully cultivated a passionate fanbase. The league's emphasis on fan engagement and its commitment to developing Taiwanese basketball have contributed to its rapid growth.

The upcoming season of the P. League+ is set to be another thrilling chapter for the league. With seven teams vying for the championship, fans can expect intense competition and high-scoring games. The defending champions, the New Taipei Kings, will look to repeat their success, while the Taipei Fubon Braves, the league's most successful franchise, will aim to reclaim their former glory. Adding to the excitement, former NBA star Jeremy Lin continues to bolster the league's star power as he suits up for the New Taipei Kings.

Now, should SGA accept it?

I am hoping they will. There is a big chance that they will have a hard time building up a team that is competitive because a lot of good Filipino players are already under contract. But, for a Filipino basketball team to be invited to showcase their wares in an International league, that is a great pride and honor for our country.

One thing though that the PBA should prepare for is the possibility that opening the doors for teams to join International league could further close the door for new teams in the PBA.  For other franchises who are with an ounce of interest of joining the league, joining an International league could be more enticing.
