PBA Trade Rumors: Terrafirma, Blackwater, Phoenix Top 3 targets!

The 2024-2025 PBA Commissioner's Cup is in full swing, and with every passing game, the competition intensifies. Unfortunately, three teams have already been eliminated from playoff contention: Terrafirma Dyip, Blackwater Bossing, and Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters. For these franchises, it’s time to regroup, assess weaknesses, and start planning their moves for the next conference.

Here’s a look at the type of players they should target in trades to address their glaring needs and improve for the future.

1. Terrafirma Dyip: A Promising Young Player

Terrafirma has once again found itself at the bottom of the standings, a frustrating outcome for a team that showed promise last season. However, their continued reputation as a "farm team" for the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has left them depleted of talent.

To rebuild their roster and regain competitiveness, Terrafirma needs to target promising young players who can be developed into future stars. One intriguing option could be Dave Ildefonso, currently with NorthPort. A skilled scorer and versatile wing, Ildefonso would inject energy and potential into the Dyip’s lineup.

By targeting younger players like Ildefonso, Terrafirma can lay the foundation for a brighter future while distancing itself from its current narrative of being a feeder team.

2. Blackwater Bossing: A Giant Center

Blackwater’s woes were exacerbated this season by the departure of Troy Rosario, who had been one of the team’s most reliable big men. Without him, the Bossing have struggled to control the paint on both ends of the court.

To address this issue, Blackwater should focus on acquiring a giant center who can anchor their defense and provide consistent scoring inside. One potential target could be Mo Tautuaa of San Miguel Beer. Tautuaa’s size, mobility, and experience would be a perfect fit for Blackwater’s needs, giving them a strong presence in the post and helping to fill the void left by Rosario’s departure.

3. Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters: Another Giant Center

Phoenix has a solid core and a roster with good size, but if they want to compete with the league’s top teams, adding another giant center would be a smart move. The importance of size in the PBA cannot be overstated, especially with powerhouse teams like San Miguel and Barangay Ginebra boasting multiple big men in their rotations.

While Phoenix already has some decent bigs, they could benefit from bringing in someone who can dominate the boards and provide a more imposing defensive presence. Adding a player like Greg Slaughter, if he’s available, could be an interesting move. Slaughter’s size and experience would make him a valuable asset for Phoenix, especially as they aim to improve their interior defense.
