Ginebra Moves LA Tenorio to Unrestricted Free Agent List, Activates Jayson David
Barangay Ginebra has made a surprising roster shift, placing long-time veteran LA Tenorio on the unrestricted free agent list while promoting young guard Jayson David to the active roster.
The update, shared via the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Facebook fan page, clarified that although Tenorio has been moved to free agency, the team will continue to shoulder his salary—an indication of their continued support and respect for the veteran guard.
Tenorio, now 40, has been a cornerstone of Ginebra’s backcourt since 2012. With eight PBA championships and four Finals MVP awards to his name, he remains one of the most decorated and respected players in league history.
Head coach Tim Cone cited Tenorio’s upcoming duties as head coach of Batang Gilas for the SEABA tournament as a key reason behind the move, suggesting it was a strategic roster adjustment rather than a parting of ways.
The decision opens the door for David to gain more experience while also ensuring Tenorio can fully commit to his national team responsibilities. Still, the move marks a significant moment in Ginebra’s transition as they begin to balance their veteran core with emerging talent.
