Welcome back to our usual ph-ballgm basketball corner, where we try to make sense of the beautiful, chaotic mess that is the PBA trade market.
If you were tracking the rumor mill this week, you probably thought Joshua Munzon to the TNT Tropang Giga was a done deal. It made sense on paper. TNT gets a dynamic scoring wing, and Titan Ultra Giant Risers get future assets. But in a plot twist straight out of a prime-time soap opera, the deal is completely dead.
And the best part? We have two completely different explanations for why it died, depending on which source you believe. Let’s break down the ultimate "He Said, He Said" of the 2026 PBA Governors' Cup.
The Deal That Was on the Table
Before we look at the wreckage, let's look at the car. Both of our main sources agree on the final package that was sitting on the commissioner's desk: Joshua Munzon was supposed to head to TNT in exchange for rookie big man Joe Celzo and TNT’s first-round pick in Season 53.
It was the culmination of months of haggling. TNT was incredibly desperate for a major roster shakeup after suffering a brutal 118-111 overtime loss to NLEX, a game where the Road Warriors didn't even have their injured import DeQuan Jones for most of the second half. The loss triggered a near one-hour dugout lockdown involving Coach Chot Reyes, team manager Jojo Lastimosa, and the rest of the coaching staff.
So, why did Titan Ultra pull the plug? Here is where the multiverse splits.
Theory A: The "Rogue Coaches" (Juan Manila)
According to the Juan Manila Facebook page, this trade died because of an internal power struggle at Titan Ultra.
Their inside info suggests that the initial agreement was brokered entirely at the coaching staff level between Titan and TNT. But when the paperwork was slid across the big desk, Titan’s management team swooped in, yelled "Wait, what are we doing?!", and vetoed the transaction.
Juan Manila also paints a picture of a prolonged, messy negotiation history dating back to May. They report that TNT initially offered Rey Nambatac straight up for Munzon, which Titan rejected. When Titan countered by asking for Henry Galinato to be included, TNT walked away.
Theory B: The "We Are Literally Out of Bodies" (Tiebreaker Times)
Then you read the report from Tiebreaker Times, and you get a completely different, much more practical narrative: Titan Ultra didn't back out because of boardroom politics; they backed out because their roster is turning into a triage center.
Tiebreaker Times reports that the fatal blow to the trade was actually the injury to Bryan Sajonia, who is now out for the rest of the 2026 Governors' Cup and the early part of Season 51. Combine that with a bad fall taken by Mark Omega on August 4 against Macau, and Titan is severely depleted. A source within Titan plainly stated, "Kulang na kami ng players".
Because they are bleeding healthy bodies, Titan looked at the Celzo-and-a-pick package and realized it wasn't enough to field a competitive team right now; they need more actual players from TNT.
Interestingly, Tiebreaker Times completely contradicts Juan Manila’s history of the negotiations. Instead of the Galinato rumor, Tiebreaker Times claims that the original rejected offer would have sent Rey Nambatac and Poy Erram to Titan in exchange for Munzon and Jeo Ambohot—a deal that TNT supposedly shut down.
You have to love the PBA. In one corner, you have a story about management stepping over rogue coaches to veto a deal. In the other corner, you have a team backing out purely because their trainer's room is too crowded.
Personally, I lean heavily toward the Tiebreaker Times version. Munzon is currently putting up 15.0 points and pulling down nearly 5 boards a game. You don't trade that kind of reliable production for a seldom-used rookie and a draft pick that won't materialize until Season 53 when you are actively losing rotation guys to injury. It's just bad asset management. Tiebreaker Times also dropped a massive nugget: Titan is apparently making everyone available except their premium Season 51 draft picks, and they have their eyes locked on TNT's Jordan Heading, who is currently averaging over 16 points a game.
If you are TNT, the asking price just went up.
