Major roster shakeups could be on the horizon for the Converge FiberXers as the PBA gears up for its upcoming conferences. According to veteran sports insider Snow Badua on a recent episode of his program No Cooking Show, the franchise is reportedly considering parting ways with their high-profile guard, Mikey Williams.
Based on Badua's statements, Converge does not plan to extend Williams' contract once his current deal officially expires.
The Titan Ultra Connection
While several teams could benefit from a scorer of Williams' caliber, Badua noted that one strong possibility being discussed behind closed doors is offering Williams to the Titan Ultra Giant Risers.
However, fans should take these rumors with a grain of salt for now. There has been absolutely no official confirmation or statement from the Converge front office, Titan Ultra management, or Williams’ camp regarding any ongoing negotiations or finalized deals.
A Dip in Production
If Converge is indeed looking to move on, Williams' current on-court production might be a contributing factor. This season with the FiberXers, his numbers have not reflected the dominant, high-scoring form he has shown in the past. He is currently averaging:
10.1 points per game
4.2 assists per game
34% Field Goal Shooting
These figures represent a noticeable dip in efficiency for a player who previously established himself as one of the most lethal offensive weapons in the league.
The Holdout Risk: Will He Play Right Away?
If Titan Ultra—or any other franchise—does pull the trigger on a trade for Williams, management and fans must temper their expectations. There is a very good chance that he will not play right away even if a trade is finalized.
Williams has a well-documented history of prolonged contract standoffs. During his time with his former team, the TNT Tropang Giga, he missed almost half of the 2022 Philippine Cup while engaged in months-long contract negotiations. Even after eventually signing an extension, he completely stopped showing up for games during the 2023 Governors' Cup, which eventually led to TNT terminating his contract.
Given this track record, a trade does not guarantee an immediate on-court debut. Any franchise that acquires his playing rights must be fully prepared to navigate complex, potentially lengthy contract discussions before he actually laces up his sneakers.
