We are about to continue the Governors Cup! Here are the 5 biggest questions!
#5. Is NLEX legit?
Even though the San Miguel Beermen and the NLEX Road Warriors are currently tied at the top of the Group A standings with identical 7-2 records, NLEX is undeniably the talk of the town. After a six-year absence, former MVP Jimmy Alapag returned to the PBA to take over as head coach. The question now is whether Alapag is a coaching phenom capable of pushing this roster to the promised land without a massive trade acquisition. He secured a win in his coaching debut when NLEX overwhelmed Macau, but maintaining this momentum in the grueling playoffs will be his ultimate test.
#4. Where are Jayson Castro and Kelly Williams?
#3. Did we see the last PBA game of Justin Brownlee?
Barangay Ginebra fans are bracing for a harsh reality: they will not have Justin Brownlee in their lineup when the conference resumes. The resident reinforcement remains sidelined due to injuries, leading Ginebra to tap Jordan Murphy as his replacement. With his ongoing injury struggles and age catching up, the terrifying question for the Ginebra faithful is no longer when he will return, but whether he will ever come back to play another game in the PBA.
#2. Is it time to tank?
The 2026 rookie draft is projected to be incredibly deep. Right now, teams like the Titan Ultra Giant Risers, Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, and the Meralco Bolts are currently holding onto their first-round picks and are in prime position to land a top-five selection. If the upcoming draft class is truly as generational as scouts say, these front offices face a massive dilemma: should they actively consider losing games to secure a better draft position and land a franchise-altering rookie?
#1. Where are the trades?
Historically, a long mid-conference break is the perfect breeding ground for blockbuster trades. Teams reassess their rosters, panicked front offices make calls, and players get shipped. Yet, this Gilas break was surprisingly quiet. We expected a handful of trades, but the movement was practically nonexistent. In fact, the only major trade reported—sending star guard Joshua Munzon to TNT—was officially called off by Titan Ultra. Instead of trading him, Titan is now reportedly preparing a contract extension for Munzon, shutting down all interest. The trade freeze has left everyone wondering if teams are simply content with their rosters or waiting for the offseason to make their moves.
