Reports surfacing over the past 24 hours indicate that Joshua Munzon is "almost a done deal" to sign a new, long-term extension with Titan Ultra. According to sources privy to the negotiations, the 31-year-old forward is expected to formally commit his future to the Giant Risers, taking off the market one of the most intriguing assets in Philippine basketball.
It sounds like the storybook ending to a chaotic chapter. But if you have been following PBA front-office drama for any length of time, there is only one reasonable response to this report: don't believe it until the ink is dry.
The Munzon-Titan saga has been brewing for months, defined by left turns, whispered trade demands, and sudden course corrections. Just a few weeks ago, a trade sending Munzon to the TNT Tropang Giga was reported as locked in—only for the deal to be abruptly called off and rescinded before the league office could finalize it.
Think about that for a second. If a trade package can literally be submitted to the PBA Commissioner's desk and still get yanked off the table at the eleventh hour, a "supposed" contract extension can fail to materialize just as easily. Verbal assurances and "almost done deals" mean very little in a league where leverage shifts by the hour.
From a purely operational standpoint, Titan’s desire to lock up Munzon makes total sense. The Giant Risers did some extensive house cleaning prior to the long Governors' Cup break, and building a competitive core around the 6-foot-4 swingman gives the young franchise a clear identity.
Munzon is a legitimate star in his prime. Since being selected No. 1 overall by Terrafirma in 2020 and later finding his rhythm with Batang Pier, he has elevated his game into elite territory—earning back-to-back All-Defensive Team nods (2024 and 2025) alongside the 2025 Most Improved Player award. Players with that rare combination of elite perimeter defense and isolated scoring do not grow on trees.
The mechanics of his current deal are also important to note. Munzon’s old contract was auto-extended for the remainder of Season 50, but any long-term stability hinges on him executing a brand-new Uniform Players Contract (UPC).
Until Munzon puts pen to paper on that UPC and Titan officially submits the executed agreement to the league, this situation remains entirely fluid. Until that photo of Munzon sitting alongside management holding the signed contract is posted, keep the salt shaker handy. In a saga this unpredictable, nothing is official until the PBA office stamps the paper.
