PBA Playoff Prediction: NLEX versus Phoenix, can coach Charles Tiu overcome an NBA-caliber head coach?
There is no denying in my eyes that the playoff bracket of this tournament could be the greatest in the last decade. It is like a bracket of the old guards against the bracket of the rising humans.
Included in that bracket of rising humans is the battle of NLEX and Phoenix. Two teams who will experience semifinals after a long time if they win.
X FACTORS
Three-point shooting
JB Bahio
Phoenix is currently the 2nd best in limiting three-pointers made per game. NLEX is 3rd in terms of three-pointers made per game. Did Phoenix found a perfect match-up or NLEX can undo their defense?
NLEX' biggest issue is their size. Bahio is an undersize forward that they usually used as the 2nd biggest player in the floor. If he can be fine defensively, NLEX will have a clear path to victory with their offense. But, if he cannot defend properly, he will be a big problem.
The final factor is the reality of the experience of coach Jimmy. There are head coaches who can succeed even in their first try but usually, it takes multiple shots.
Prediction
With the injury of Perkins and with a new import, it is unclear if Phoenir can sustain their defense or not against long bombs. Will they play bigger now and try to exploit Bahio and Semerad?
Overall, I will trust coach Charles Tiu to find a way because he has clearer weaknesses to breakdown than coach Jimmy.
