UAAP Power Ranking: Ateneo and FEU are the favorites now?

UAAP has an awesome first month of action!

It is time to give you our first power ranking. It seems like a lot of fans are enjoying the current tight race for a playoff spots.

Do we really have 7 legit championship contenders?

#8. UE Red Warriors
It is hard to be a fan and an alumni of UE right now. They are the laughing stock of the league and they are becoming the anticipated match-up of all the other 7 teams. For fans, it will be a miracle if they can win a single game.

#7. Ateneo Blue Eagles
It is just hard right now to trust the team with the most number of question marks outside and inside the basketball court. They are at the top of the standings but they still have 10 games to play. Kieffer Alas and Jared Bahay are balling but the scouting of the other teams will soon catch-up with them.

#6. NU Bulldogs
They have a deep team and that is expected with the way they build up their roster and with their process of recruitment. My biggest question mark about them is, do they have a star player that can win them close games as the race get hotter?

#5. Adamson Falcons
You can say that Adamson is higher than NU because they have that star player that can tow them to close wins in Matthew Montebon. Although, it is not easy to put them higher when their FSA, Precious Jonah is struggling.

#4. La Salle Green Archers
What is happening with Jacob Cortez? The only game that he shot better than 30% in the field is against UE. It is not helping their case that none of their bigmen are breaking out this season. The size will still matter at the heat of the race but they need to show up soon.

#3. UP Fighting Maroons
I will not argue with anyone who will rank my top 3 in another order. So, currently, you can say that these are my championship contenders but it is a tier that can change every gameday.

UP is part of it because Veejay Pre has took over. They have the size against the tall teams in the league. Their defense is problematic but with the size and talent that they have, we can expect it to improve.

#2. FEU Tamaraws
It is hard to put them this high because history tell us that their last Finals appearance was more than a decade ago. They also struggled last year. What they have right now though, could be the best offense in UAAP. They may also have the most number of capable 20-point scorers this year led by Kirby Mongcopa.

#1. UST Growling Tigers
This is our first ranking and with two months more of play, I will still choose the most talented team in our evaluation. I think their system is problematic but I think the talent level of the team will managed to get them back on track. I think Collins Akowe is the top guy this year and I expect him to heat up soon.
