2022 Top 100 PBA Players: 25th to 11th - Ginebra superstar has a legendary skill!

We are already done with the 100th to 26th rank players. It is time for the cream of the crop for 2022! Here is the 25th to 11th rank player!

To rank them, we used the following criteria.

Scoring (S) - 30
Primarily, this is the ability of the player to score. Their points per game were the primary statistics that were scrutinized but we also give a huge weight on the efficiency of the player. We also factor in the fact that there are a hundred ways to score. So the more ways a player scores efficiently will also increase his points in this area.

Defense (D) - 30
Defense represents 50% of the game for a player. This score will take into account the ability of the player to stop someone, man-to-man. Now, the defense is not all about man-to-man but also about the capacity of a player to work in the defensive scheme of a team. Enjoined in this area is the ability of the player to get rebounds and to help his team control the flow of the game.

Offense (O) - 25
Scoring is the only goal of offense but the other factors that will pave the way for good scoring opportunities will reside in this area. Primarily, this is about the ability of the player to break down defenses and make plays for his teammates. Added to this is the intelligence of the player in making the right plays, reads and positions in helping out the team take a good shot.

Intangibles (I) - 15
There are four other elements of a player that basically form this criterion. They are leadership, chemistry, clutch, and health. Those four are not part of the first three but actually elevate a player. A good example is LA Tenorio. LA is not as valuable as the Tenorio that we know today without his ability to command and his 100% health status.

In the case of ties, they will be ranked according to age with the youngest being the highest. The previous performances of the players were also considered in assessing them.

Rank. Name of the Player. Scoring/Defense/Offense/Intangibles

#25 M. Tautuaa 19.5/21/16/10.5
#24 A. Barroca 12/24/18/13.5
#23 C. Banchero 20/17/20.5/10

There is a good argument that Moala Tautuaa is the most underutilized giant in the league for the last five years. The guy is as skilled as you can get for a giant. He is willing to take threes. He defends pretty well even on the perimeter. His passing is also a positive. Unfortunately, another season of low playing time will surely slide Moala into a much lower rank in this top 100.

Barroca has been the 2nd ironman in the league, next to LA Tenorio. In the Governors' cup, he produced 11.2 points, 45% FG, 32% 3FG, 4.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.7 steals per game. That was his most efficient conference in his career. And of course, the Coffee Prince is still one of the best one-on-one guard defender in the country.

In his last five games with Phoenix, he was the best player not Matthew Wright. In that five games, he erupted for 18.0 points, 55% FG, 39% 3FG, 3.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Unfortunately for him, he may not get the same amount of playing time in Meralco.

#22 T. Romeo 28/11/18.5/10.5
#21 B. Belga 15/23.5/19.5/11
#20 C. Newsome 21/18/20/10.5

Terrence' injury issues continue to haunt his career. Believe it or not, Terrence is only 30 years old. He is still entering the prime of his career but if his health issues continue to get worse, Terrence will continue to go down in this ranking. Terrence is still the best guard in breaking down his defense. His handles is not only the best in the league but maybe one of the best in the entire continent.

Belga is still the best playmaking center in the league. The bigman averaged 3 or more assists on both conference. That is not easy to do. The way he utilized his size, wit and elite handle for a bigman in breaking down his defenders, is a thing of beauty. Defensively, he is one of the hardest center to move around and his physicality is always a plus.

Newsome is easily the most under-appreciated ace player in the league. He is not really elite on any major area but he is almost near-elite on all of them. In the Philippine Cup, he stuff the stat sheet with his 13.0 points, 45% FG, 40% 3FG, 4.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. He is one of the most complete playmaker in the league.

#19 R. Pogoy 20.5/25.5/15/10
#18 J. Malonzo 21.5/24.5/16/9.5
#17 L. Tenorio 20/13.5/23.5/15

RR Pogoy struggled last season. He failed to hit more than 26% of his shots from beyond the arc. We are talking about the guy that already erupted for two games of more than eight three-pointers made in a game. Nevertheless, RR is still a good scorer and one of the best wing-defender in the league.

I am very excited about Jamie Malonzo when he entered the draft. Even my excited was overblown by the performance of Jamie. Here were his numbers in his very first tournament; 13.5 points, 43% FG, 34% 3FG, 8.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. He just needs to continue advancing his skills and one day, he can be the MVP of the league.

One of the best skill in team sports is availability. And LA is a legend for that one. LA has never missed a game in the PBA. Imagine assessing a guard in a draft with an assessment of being a starting caliber point guard who will never miss a game. That guy will have a good argument to become the #1 pick. LA's age though is obviously catching up to him. Nevertheless, his scoring and quarterbacking skills are still on good levels.

#16 G. Slaughter 19.5/26.5/20/7
#15 A. Santos 19.5/27.5/17/11.5
#14 J. Jalalon 18.5/24/20.5/13
Yes. I know that you hate Greg. Nevertheless, in the last Philippine Cup, Gregzilla was the best giant in that tournament. He really embodies the mantra that size is king in basketball. Just his screening alone can run an half-court set into perfection. While defensively, he doesn't need to be a savant to deter a load of shots out of the rim.

Santos was traded from San Miguel and he delivered a resurgence in his career. In the Governors' Cup, the Spiderman manufactured 17.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.8 blocks, 43% FG and 32% 3FG per game. Arwind is just defying father time at this point. He is still the best stretch-bigman-3-and-D.

I do not understand why Jio did not get that much loved for his breakout last season. In the Governors' cup, he delivered 10.3 points, 47% FG , 4.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He was tasked with more responsibilities and he delivered. He was consistent in breaking down defenses and exhibited that he has one of the quickest first steps in the league.

#13 W. Castro 20/20.5/22/14
#12 I. Sangalang 24/22.5/18/12.5
#11 K. Ravena 25.5/17/24.5/10

Mikey Williams is undoubtedly the ace player right now of TNT. His arrival sent The Blur to the bench but that may have provided a good impact on him. He played fresher for the entire season and was more consistent. His first step is still deadly and defensively, Jayson is putting more effort.

Sangalang is easily the most forgettable superstar center in the league. I will not be shocked if you are not aware that Ian just delivered his highest points per game in the Philippine Cup at 16.8 points per game. Unfortunately, his aggressiveness was not sustained in the Governors' Cup. His defense though is underrated and of course, he is one of the best off-ball finisher in the center position.

Kiefer decided to leave the PBA for Japan B League after the Philippine Cup last year. Because he still played one tournament last season, I decided that he can still be part of the ranking. I think Kiefer is the best pure point guard in the league and he also showed that in Japan.
